Ricefield Christmas exhibition – call for entries!

Ricefield, Glasgow’s Chinese arts and cultural centre, has asked the Glasgow Craft Mafia to co-curate an exhibition for the month of December so we’re looking for artists and crafters to take part.

The exhibition is based on the concept of Ushigokoro, whereby each artist gets a box in which to display their items in any way they please. Ushigokoro exhibitions are currently taking place in Shanghai and Tokyo.

If you are interested, please read the following before applying:

1. Work for this exhibition must have a sincere Asian influence. It doesn’t have to be Chinese and it doesn’t have to be traditional but it should be created with some interest and knowledge of Asian arts and culture. It’s fine to do research and create a set of work specifically for this exhibition.

2. Deadline for entries is 30th September. Enough work to fill your box plus some extra must be completed by the beginning of November. Additional stock would be provided to Ricefield as required during the exhibition.

3. Boxes will be provided – you just need to provide enough pieces to display. All work will be available to buy with Ricefield taking a commission of 20%. Box dimensions are approximately 30cm x 40cm x 30cm.

4. At the moment we’re only accepting submissions from artists and crafters in the Central Belt of Scotland. Ideally you should be able to drop off your work in person, especially as we’ll be organising a box decorating party before the exhibition starts!

If this sounds good to you, please email hello at askingfortrouble.org with a link to your work or some images and a couple of sentences describing why your work would be suitable for this exhibition.

We’ll let you know as soon as possible whether you’re included so you can start work.

If you have any questions please post them here or email me. And please pass this on to anyone you know who might be interested. thanks!
