Wednesday, August 19th, 2009The BUST Craftacular returns to London after the success of it’s Christmas extravaganza. Mafia member Showpony is packing her case and heading down for the day to set up stall. If you’re in the area, do pop by. Maybe bring her a coffee, she’ll need it after getting a pre dawn train down there! Friend of the mafia, Hannah Zakari, will also be there selling a fabby range of accessories.

Learn To Sew With LUV

The LUV textile workshop in Linthouse, Govan continues to grow….
In these credit crunch times, its useful to be able to make new clothes and furnishings and adapt old ones, something the Glasgow Craft Mafia wholeheartedly endorses!
LUV is currently running a Tuesday morning class from 10am till 12pm each week which is free to local people. (Tutor available)
Also there is a relaxed Saturday Drop-in from 2pm till 5pm each week where people with some basic skills can come along and create their own projects within a creative space.
The Saturday drop in has a small cost of £3(£2 concession) for using the space and for tea/biscuits etc. (not tutored, volunteer run)
A programme of evening classes have been organised for the year and is advertised below – here’s what LUV have to say:

An introduction to Sewing
An eight week beginner’s course for adults with little or no sewing skills
This short course offers an introduction to any adult wanting to learn that basic machine and hand sewing skills to allow them to create simple projects for themselves and their home.
We will start at the very beginning to give you all the basic tools and skills you need to get you started on a sewing adventure! You will work your way through a series of small projects designed specifically for people with no prior sewing knowledge. These will range from making cushion covers and peg bags to lovely and useful pinnys and oven gloves to wear round your home!

Further Sewing skills and techniques to take you to the next level……
An eight week course for adults with some prior sewing experience
This short course is a step up from the ‘starting from scratch course and is open to all adults with a basic knowledge of machine and hand sewing.
We will begin with a series of small crafty projects to introduce you to essential sewing techniques like inserting a zip and making buttonholes. From there you will move on to making your very own basic item of clothing as chosen by the tutor. All students will work from the same pattern, but will all leave with their own unique item to wear!
