Pumpkinsputnik is the creative outlet of me - Emma Wilson, designer-maker. I graduated from GrayÕs School of Art in Aberdeen in 1995 and became a jeweller making silver and enamel jewellery, until I took a career break to look after my young children. Pumpkinsputnik was born in 2005 out of a need to start making things again, books and stationery have always been a love of mine and I always have at least two notebooks on the go, so this seemed like the ideal way to do something with my love of photography and computer-aided graphic design. Everything I do is completely handmade, the books have soft covers made from watercolour card, are filled with good quality cartridge paper and are sewn together with paper string. The covers, cards and stationery are printed with my designs which come from my photographs of trees, plants and flowers which I manipulate in imaging software. I like to mix new technologies with traditional techniques, so while the images are completely digital and are printed on a cutting edge printer, all the paper is cut by hand and the books are bound in a very simple and traditional way. |
